Life is hard and you only learn how to deal with it as you grow older. All those time’s I doubted myself and didn’t know right from wrong, I wish there was an older me to give this advice. Here is a letter to my younger self.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE
I learned too late that I was mixing with the wrong people. I let people take advantage of me for so long that I forgot that I was important too. When you surround yourself with positive people, you will shine, and they will get the best you.
GET RID OF TOXIC PEOPLE
Don’t think twice. If someone is making your life a misery and they do not add value to it, it is time to let go. The first person I ever really let go of was my Dad, and that was simply because he just wasn’t there for me.
When you feel sad or angry, open up to those you trust. Holding on to things magnifies the situation when really, it’s not always that bad.
LIVE FOR THE MOMENT
Look at what you have right this second. If it makes you happy, enjoy it for what it is. Don’t always wish for another day. Life is happening now.

BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE
If you have food on the table, people that love you and a home to live in, you are already rich. Don’t get caught up in needing more.
Some lessons have to be learned. Making mistakes will make you a better person if you truly learn from them. As Einstein said, “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new”. So try something new 🙂
THINGS DONT ALWAYS GO TO PLAN
I have spent a lot of my life trying to map out my future. But really, sometimes we have very little control. Stop worrying and move forward.
LET THOSE YOU LOVE, KNOW THEY ARE APPRECIATED
Just because you know you love and care for someone, does not mean that they know. Actions always speak louder than words. So if it’s been a while, just give them a call and let them know. They may not be here tomorrow.
People often used to tell me to smile more… I think I just have a very bitchy resting face, but I DO smile. It makes you more inviting and approachable, and to be honest, too many people act like strangers. Just smile and you might make someone’s day.
Life can be taken far too seriously. One of the biggest influencers of changing that seriousness for me was my partner. The first day I met him he made me laugh, and today he still makes me pee my pants. Laughter is the best medicine after all.

GET A HOBBY
Find something that is just for yourself and that you can focus on, an outlet if you like. Many times as a child I locked myself in a room and I was just generally miserable. If I’d of had something to focus on, I think life may have been very different for me. I always kept a journal and wrote in that, which I guess helped, but I think I hid behind it. Nowadays I write this blog, and it;s a fantastic outlet, both for my creative and emotional juices.
DONT HOLD OFF A DREAM
For a long time, I genuinely thought that good things just came to you. That if I was meant to be rich and famous then a genie would grant me money and fame… Nah. Unless you’ve been born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you have to make it happen yourself. It’s not always easy to know what you want to do, but when you find that thing, hold onto it and run with it. Life is too short.

WHEN TIMES GET TOUGH, JUST HAVE A MOMENT WITH YOURSELF
When things are getting too much, take yourself out of the equation, breathe, sleep, have a word, cry if you need to and start again.
IT’S OK TO SAY NO
This is something I still struggle with, but just learn to say no without feeling obliged to justify why. You can end up exerting yourself trying to keep others happy. Trust me you are the only one that loses.
GOOD PEOPLE ARE RARE- HOLD ONTO THEM
I have learned that a lot of people are out for themselves. People can be ruthless and selfish and only interested in making it to the top treading on anyone to get there. When you come across someone that goes out of their way just to make you smile, snap them up. People like that don’t come around often.
Be stupid, dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is watching and make people laugh. Don’t take yourself TOO seriously. There is a time and a place, mind you, don’t start a conga at work, it’s not gonna go down well with the boss.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Fast foods and fizzy drinks make me groggy. I genuinely prefer to eat healthy foods because they make me feel better. Educate yourself on what is going to make you feel good on the inside and make you look good on the outside. I don’t calorie count, but I use my common sense- If I eat 3 curries a week, the pounds are gonna pile on and I’m going to feel crap about myself.
CATCH YOUR ZEDS
I am a grouchy cow when I’ve had anything less than 10 hours sleep. This has a knock-on effect for every single thing I do in the day. It’s not worth it. Just get your rest, and wake up happy.
YOU WILL GET OVER HIM
When I broke up with my first long-term boyfriend, I looked at my mum and told her that I didn’t think that I could live without him. I look back and laugh at myself for even uttering those words. I survived and my life is better because of it! No matter what you think, it really doesn’t hurt forever.
