STEP 1- YOGA’NA LOVE IT!
I tried Yoga for the very first time when I was travelling in Oz. I had always wanted to try it but I guess there was never a right time. This, however, seemed the perfect time. It by no means was easy, and this particular class aimed to make you sweat! I became aware of muscles I didn’t even know existed and in turn became aware of them when they weren’t stretched! Never the less even after my first class I was amazed at how much better I felt. This is the first step in my 4 steps to calm because you need something that is going to get your heart racing, yet by the end, leaves your body feeling loosened up and your mind quiet.
Tip: Try it in a darkened room with candles and a relaxing diffuser to get the best out of it.
STEP 2- B SAYS “RELAX”
After sweating it out what is better than a nice bath to soak those muscles? This is a crucial part of finding calm for me, be it a shower or a bath, I swear by it for curing almost anything. Pamper yourself in this step and take care of you.
Tip: Get yourself some bubbles to really help you unwind.
STEP 3- INDULGE IN THE SNUG
After that long soak, get into some warm lounge wear and snuggle up with a book or your laptop and a coffee. Burn some candles and take pleasure in the leisure. This step allows you to do the things you don’t always get chance to do. Whether its browsing Pinterest for 2 hours or looking at holiday destinations, do what makes you happy.
Tip: Invest in a really cosy throw to snuggle in.
STEP 4- SLEEP TIGHT
This had to make an appearance. I am probably at my best when I have had a goodnight’s sleep and about to start a new day, but there can be many disruptions that jeopardise this. Make sure you are first and foremost comfortable and are using the right mattress and pillow to give your body the best support. Waking up to an alarm only brings stress so why not try a wake-up light? They aren’t cheap but it could be an investment if practicing calm is your goal.
Tip: Keep a notepad by your bed side and write down anything that tries to creep into your thoughts just as you’re trying to catch some Z’s. This way you can get rid of anything keeping you awake and attend to it in the morning.
This is by no means an extensive list, its just a simple one that you can aim to live by on a daily basis. With all the stress that life brings, and thinking about others, we can forget to think about ourselves. Don’t burn out, show a little self care, and everything that you do in life will be better for it
